In 2008 I couldn't attend No Age's gig at the same place, Galeria Zé dos Bois. This time I proudly bought a ticket to this band's show. I can assure you they're really good live. The setlist was cool, ranging from tunes of Weirdo Rippers, Nouns and their most recent EP. I even got the chance to crowdsurf! Also, Randy gave to me and to my friends his guitar and we started playing it like crazy, while he was jamming with the pedals simultaneously: awesome. Here are some videos so that you can see how good it was:

Released this year on Upset the Rhythm, this is a raw semi-garage rock compilation. Pretty good, although after hearing it too many times seems to start fading away. It's that kind of record you must hear only once in a while [and you recognize it then how good it is]. This info about the band is on Upset the Rhythm's official website:
THE STICKS are a stripped down garage party band from Brighton. They bash drums, sway on the bass and claw at guitar - often swapping over instruments between songs live - and yelp with melodic abandon and delight. The Sticks were recently dubbed as 'semi-amateur', this may be true. With cheap, unreliable equipment they manage to tease out a cacophony of crashing drums and raucous guitar melodies.
The key elements of the trio's sound are undoubtedly drawn from the rudimentary ideas found in the more inept efforts of mid-sixties teen bands such as The Chimney Sweeps and The Keggs, as well as their modern day equivalents The Black Lips, The Coachwhips or The Hospitals, say.
So, let's talk about the album. It excells in garage tunes, instrumental parts and has over 20 tracks. The track list is the following: 01 - On The Run 02 - Don't Sit On The Porch 03 - Radio Song 04 - On The Sea 05 - Bored! 06 - Pongs 07 - One & The Same 08 - Interim 09 - Earshot 10 - Nothing Song 11 - I'm Wrong 12 - Messing Around 13 - Slam Party 14 - Honkey Time 15 - Got Me 16 - Regal Like 17 - Live In A Town 18 - Night Of Pleasure 19 - Morning-King 20 - Giant Strides
Somewhere in the blogosphere, they said Hocus Tocus sounded similar to Kylie Minogue's Loco-Motion... Forget it. Since when lo-fi indie that's somewhat similar to fellows Wavves, Lovvers and Times New Viking is similar to Kylie? The world still has to go through much stuff for that to succeed. Hocus Tocus are a great emerging band. They are that kind of lo-fi band you seem to have heard before, but still inovative. I advise you to go to their myspace here.
Numbers game is a kind of new DIY aesthetics musical project of Doc Matthews. When I hear his songs, I think of a different Ariel Pink. Like a more audible Ariel Pink with extended tracks, you know. I still don't get why Numbers Game isn't already one of those hype bands. Take this as a fine example: Wavves are an overrated band, so why isn't this overrated too? I only hope Doc Matthews keeps producing songs like these. Check out his website. He's got free MP3 there too [and flacs].
Teengirl Fantasy's show was quite calm, proper to their music. Chilling, listening to their beats, while they were having fun creating melodies out of awkward loops, many people got along with it... Some just wanted Wavves to pop up on the stage and start playing though. But I liked it, I thought they were good and promising too. Below is a video of Teengirl Fantasy performing (recorded by João Almeida with my camera):
Wavves final gig of their european tour... how can I describe it? Marvelous, paradoxal, genius. Some hated the show, some loved it. I'm by the side of the ones who fell in love with that decaying spirit. Nathan yelled "boo" and then shouted with the whole crowd "satan! satan! satan!". Pure genius. Download this recording to see for yourself. I couldn't film this show, but a friend of mine used the my camara and recorded almost the whole thing. However, he didn't film many crowdsurfs (don't ask me why...), including when I crowdsurfed twice. There were people outside Galeria Zé dos Bois astonished with the show, some of them even stanted there for like half an hour straight, seeing us all have fun. The setlist wasn't bad... They didn't play "No hope kids"- many people wanted this one to be sang. "To the dregs" was featured, "Wavves" too, in which Nathan crowdsurfed while playing his guitar at the same time!!!... "So Bored" was the last song: at the end there was a stage invasion. This is all recorded by João Almeida with my camera. You can see this below:
Basically there's just one consistent member in this band and she calls herself "Dee Dee" I believe. It's lo-fi pop. Nevertheless, it sure is good. Dum Dum girls... They've even signed to Sub Pop. You can tell this is an upcoming band. They've played in the Woodsist fest in Brooklyn, NY, or whatever that fest was. Dee Dee assumes a wannabe gothic style (no offense intended here) - which I quite adore, I must say. Their discography currently consists of: an EP entitled Yours alone (on Captured Tracks label), a 7" named "Long hair", a 4-way split and there'll be soon available a cassette comp on Art Fag label. See how this lo-fi pop is appealing - direct yourself to their myspace. They've been compared to bands like Black Tambourine and Shop Assistants.
I'll put a video here for you to heart them("Hey Sis" song):
